Grace Jennings (she/her)
PhD Student
Grace Jennings (she/her) is a PhD student in the Abess Center’s Environmental Science and Policy Program at the University of Miami. Her research focuses on ocean governance, particularly the role of small-scale social networks in community-based conservation interventions. Grace graduated from Duke University in 2023 where she majored in Environmental Science and Policy and Sociology and was a Rachel Carson Scholar of marine science and conservation at the Duke Marine Lab. After graduating, Grace spent over two years living and working in a rural province of the Philippines as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Her focus as a Coastal Resource Management volunteer was mainly working with fisherfolk communities to increase sustainable livelihood development opportunities in order to boost the local economy and reduce fishing pressure. Originally from Massachusetts, Grace grew up exploring New England, where she fostered a deep love and curiosity of the ocean and the communities that depend on it.
