Angela Phan (she/her)
PhD Student
Angela Phan (she/her) is a PhD student in the Environmental Science and Policy program at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science & the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy at the University of Miami. Having grown up in the greater Vancouver, BC region and observing the interconnectedness of human-coastal and marine ecosystems, Angela was inspired to pursue a career in marine social sciences with a keen interest in governance, marine conservation, and justice and equity. Prior to joining the Ocean Governance Collaborative lab, she worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Resilience of Coastal Communities project in the UK and as a Research Consultant to UNICEF supporting climate-nutrition research for the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office. In the past, she co-led a youth delegation to the United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon (2022) and attended the UN Commission for the Status of Women (2021). Angela has a Bachelor of Art in International Relations from the University of British Columbia (2020) and a Master of Science in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management (now renamed Biodiversity, Conservation and Nature Recovery) from the University of Oxford (2022). In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, hiking, cooking, and learning how to salsa (a work in progress!).
